Our Mission
The Tubman Center for Health & Freedom addresses health and wellness from both systemic and clinical approaches. By practicing medicine from the intersection of health and freedom, we address both the health of our patients as well as the factors that determine their health. Tubman Health provides primary and preventative care, community resources, social services, political education and advocacy.
The Tubman Center for Health and Freedom is a community organization committed to the principles of healing and people’s liberation from systems that make us unwell. We work to advance health justice, culturally appropriate care and integrative medicine. We are designing an innovative community health clinic that specializes in meeting the needs of marginalized communities in Seattle’s Puget Sound region.
We are named after the heroine Harriet Tubman, who concentrated on both freeing people from systems of oppression that threatened their health as well as providing clinical care for patients as a Nurse in the Union army. We follow this same methodology of addressing health and wellness from both systemic and clinical approaches.
Tubman Health is a multifaceted healthcare system designed specifically to meet the health needs of communities of color and other marginalized groups.
Funding for Tubman Center for Health & Freedom includes low-income and high wealth individual donors, philanthropic organizations and public sources. None of the works produced by Tubman Health are owned by any other entity. With the exception of marginalized community members, no foundations or donors direct or influence the work of Tubman Health.
It is our practice to resist the status quo extraction of intellectual property of Black and Brown people (particularly women) and therefore require that our works and ideas are appropriately cited, credited, and held by the organization, authors and communities from which they originate.
