COVID-19 and Blaxinate

Our Blaxinate campaign ran from 2021 to 2022 in response to data indicating that vaccine uptake by the Black community in our region was among the lowest in the state. We launched Blaxinate with the goal of bringing #MedicineToThePeople.

Foremost, the conversation around vaccines has to begin with the medical establishment acknowledging and taking responsibility for the medical distrust they had created in Black and Brown communities across the country through unethical research, mistreatment, and discrimination.

The Tubman Center for Health & Freedom supports patients’ medical autonomy and authority over their bodies. We aim to provide our patients with the most accurate science and Public Health information available to aid in their decision-making processes. We trust our patients to make the best decisions for their own health, the health of their families, and the health of the people. We believe in good science. We also believe that people would make informed decisions based on accessible scientific information. We see our role as making the information accessible to the people. That’s why we launched Blaxinate, a public health campaign focused on answering questions and addressing concerns of vaccine-curious and cautious community members.

Blaxinate was a vaccination event for the people in our community to come and get vaccinated in a safe, welcoming place while being surrounded by members of our community. Throughout the pandemic, we held a series of unique vaccination events tailored to our community by partnering with Black businesses and other community-based organizations to host pop-ups, drive-thru events, and V.I.P vaccine clinic events. We are committed to bringing the vaccine and critical information to the people!

Tubman Health continues to provide public health updates and briefings, and we periodically offer vaccination events through the Freedom Clinic at Rainier Valley Leadership Academy.
